Buying art online at Artfully Walls

Today I’m sharing one of my favorite online resources for finding affordable art online – Artfully Walls. Their website is a highly curated website of art pieces that have been chosen by art experts.

I first heard about Artfully Walls years ago from Chris Loves Julia when they featured a gallery wall they were creating. I loved the gallery wall look that they added above the bed in their master bedroom.

Once I clicked over to Artfully Walls, I was hooked! And, no. This post isn’t sponsored. I just love this resource so much that I want to share it with you!

Because every piece of art sold on Artfully Walls has been hand chosen, it feels like they are ALL great. You don’t have to wade through the outdated or simply overproduced art that other retailers may have.

I also love that prints sold on their site are printed on museum quality, made with archival inks and premium paper and canvas.

And they also have tons of great different frames to choose from or you can order the art prints unframed!

The Easiest Way to Create a Gallery Wall

Aside from the sheer volume of amazing art Artfully Walls has, I was so impressed by their premade gallery walls. You guys, this is PERFECT for anyone struggling with creating a gallery wall.

The gallery wall sets have been put together by designers and each has a cohesive look and color palette.

They also offer custom framing of each piece if you want. But, once you factor in the costs of custom framing (which can be done with your choice of frame styles), the price can get to be quickly out of what I’d call “budget-friendly”.

So if you’re on a budget for your gallery wall, you can simply check the option for “unframed” and then collect your own frames from thrift stores or other stores.

Here are a few of my favorite premade gallery walls from Artfully Walls. (Remember the prices listed INCLUDE custom framing so the price drops dramatically when you take that out of the equation).

Five photo frames hang on the wall of the gallery.

A Touch of Yesterday

Incorporate a vintage touch into your home with these muted prints, which have a storied look to them. The grouping of abstracts, florals, sketches, and nature scenes results in a display that appears well-curated and collected over time.

A green vibe of 3 photo frames hangs on the wall, adding a touch of nature to your home.

Landscape Modern

This enchanting trio has us daydreaming of fantastical landscapes, castles, and classical charm. Paired with varying black frames, these works will surely add depth and history to your home.

Shades of Ecru

This chic color study exploring shades of ecru is perfectly balanced between soft curvature and striking moments of black. Calling on architecture, abstraction and femininity, this timeless gallery wall is all things elegant.

Modern Monochrome

A timeless investment, monochrome is seen here through the lens of contemporary, abstract works. Fit with subtle texture and layers, we love the variety of frame thickness for a sophisticated and nuanced finish.

A gallery wall of 5 photo frames in a dark and stormy theme, with each frame containing a different image.

Dark and Stormy

We love this romantic gallery wall, perfect for moody moment reminiscent of the deep woods and changing seasons. Paired with mismatch frames for a nuanced touch, each frame is unique to the work, creating a sophisticated look.

But what if you want to make changes to the gallery wall?

No worries! You can make any changes you want on the gallery walls on Artfully Walls. You can remove a print, add another, change the layout or size, adjust the frames (or get rid of them altogether).

OR if you’re in the creative mood, you can completely design your own gallery wall set using the Wall Designer tab. It allows you to pull together your favorite prints on a gallery wall in just a few easy steps.

Other perks to ordering an easy gallery wall set

The other neat thing about their gallery walls is they share a recommended paint color for the wall behind the art.

AND they show you exactly how to hang the art to get the look with a detailed diagram showing the measurement between the floor and the first piece you’re supposed to hang in the gallery wall set.

What makes a good gallery wall

A photo of a bedroom with the gallery wall, chair, and plant. With text overlays, say, "What makes a good gallery wall?"

Creating a killer gallery wall is an art form in itself – so that’s why I love the idea of choosing a premade set of prints for an easy gallery wall.

As you peruse the gallery walls, you’ll notice a few things that most of them have in common.

Here’s what makes a good gallery wall –

  • Mix of different sizes: A symmetrical grid with a uniform look has its place – maybe for a photo gallery wall. But if you’re mixing together your own art display, it is best to mix in large pieces with smaller ones.
  • Use different art mediums and art styles: A good rule of thumb for a classic gallery wall with a collected look is to mix together several different styles of art – a portrait, a landscape, an abstract painting, etc.
  • Choose a color scheme or theme: This is the perfect way to keep things cohesive.
  • Spacing matters: Keep a consistent gap between frames on your gallery wall layout for a polished vibe.
  • Mix OR match your types of frames: I think that you can either go with all matching frames on your gallery wall or lots of different frames. My top tip here is to shop for your frames on our own gallery wall at cheap stores – like Target, Michaels, or Walmart or buy them secondhand at yard sales, thrift stores, or on Facebook Marketplace.

How to hang a gallery wall

  1. Gather Tools:
    • Frames
    • Hammer
    • Nails
    • Level
    • Measuring tape
    • Kraft Paper
    • Scissors
  2. Floor Preview: Lay out frames on the floor for the perfect arrangement.
  3. Kraft Paper Hack: Cut kraft paper to frame sizes, and tape on the wall to visualize placement. Another idea is to trace the frames on a large sheet of kraft paper and just hang the whole paper template on the wall.
  4. Measure and Mark: Measure and mark where each frame will go using the paper as a guide.
  5. Start Hanging: Begin with the center frame and work your way out.
  6. Nail It In: Hammer those nails.
  7. Level Up: Use a level to keep things straight.
  8. Step Back and Admire: Take a step back, and revel in your gallery wall glory.

My journey to appreciating art

For the majority of my life, I didn’t really consider art important. Paintings, poetry, whatever, it all wasn’t interesting to me.

I don’t know if it was all the science and math classes I took to become a pharmacist. Or, the fact that my 5-year-old can arguably draw better than me. Either way, I didn’t really “get” the whole art thing.

When we started decorating our home and I started this blog, I became more intrigued by art. As I learned more about interior design, I could see that a beautiful piece of art could completely finish a room.

I loved that the colors in an abstract painting can look both haphazard and cohesive, perfectly flowing together.

How PPD deepened my love of great art

Then art started to really all come together for me after having Evie. Experiencing post-partum depression was unlike anything I’ve dealt with before. I was feeling out of control and desperately searching for something to put me back together.

As weird as it may sound, I found a beautiful solace in looking at art when I was struggling.

The power of art

Art is powerful. It makes you think. It makes you feel and says things that words simply cannot.

Art is unifying. It allows humans to understand each other, whether this person is your neighbor or someone you’ll never meet thousands of miles away.

No matter how different we may all be, we share the same fundamental emotions and desires. Feeling and seeing this communicated via art is a beautiful thing.

I am still a complete amateur when it comes to knowing the first thing about art. So, this is no expert’s take on the power of art. If you asked me to spot an “impressionist” piece, I’d definitely have a deer-in-headlights look.

Why do you need art in your home?

If you took the time to read my story above about appreciating art, you’ll understand that adding art to your home isn’t just about making it look pretty. It brings a bunch of benefits:

  1. Express Yourself: Art lets you showcase your personality and style.
  2. Mood Booster: A good piece of art can lift your mood and add positive vibes. My experience with PPD and art is proof of this.
  3. Conversation Starter: It’s like a built-in conversation starter for guests.
  4. Visual Interest: Breaks the monotony and adds visual interest to your space.
  5. Support Artists: You’re basically a patron of the arts – feel fancy! Buying art allows artists to keep creating new pieces, which is a win-win for everyone.

So, why not give your walls a little personality?

Where to find affordable art online

I’m not about to be perusing expensive galleries to find original pieces – though I’d love, love to. So, online, budget-friendly, prints/typography/portraits, etc. is my only option right now. Maybe you’re in the same boat as you shop for art for your own home – which is why I think you’ll love the gallery wall ideas from Artfully Walls.

The more I dig in and look for art, I’m truly amazed at the quality and sheer amount of art available for purchase online. And, for incredibly reasonable prices.

Here are a few more great resources for finding affordable art online – other than Artfully Walls:
